Himalayan Hope Network Inc. did not begin in a conference room or around a formal board table. It began with friendship.
For many years, a close circle of friends made time to gather at least once a week. When a week passed without seeing one another, we felt that something was missing. There was nothing formal about these gatherings. We talked about our families, our communities, Nepal, and our lives in America. We shared food, sang songs, laughed, exchanged stories, and made fun of one another in the way only close friends can. Some of us spoke on the phone almost every day.
But our friendship was never limited to sitting around a table. We hiked together, rode bicycles together, and sometimes escaped the noise and rush of the city for a few days, traveling and exploring nature with our families. We walked trails, shared meals, celebrated special moments, and created countless memories together.

Along the way, something beautiful happened. It was not only us who became close friends. Our spouses became friends, our children became friends, and gradually our families grew close to one another. The children played, traveled, and shared experiences together, while our families developed bonds of their own. What began as friendship among a few individuals slowly became a friendship among families. Over the years, that friendship grew into something deeper. We became more than friends; we became an extended family.
Somewhere between the conversations and laughter, the hiking and cycling, the family trips and journeys we shared, we discovered that something else connected us: a common sense of compassion and responsibility toward others.
Each of us had been involved in community service in different ways. Whenever disaster struck, we tried to help. When we heard about a family struggling financially, someone facing illness, or a person going through hardship, we tried to offer whatever support we could. Sometimes our contribution was modest, but we never believed that compassion had to be measured by its size. A small act, offered at the right moment, could bring hope into someone’s life.
Another bond that brought us together was our love for nature and our concern for the environment, especially the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. That shared concern gave rise to what became known among us as the Eco Walk Group.
Our journeys took us across Nepal, from Everest Base Camp and Mustang to Lumbini, Palpa, and Chitwan. We walked through mountains, villages, valleys, and communities, sharing messages about environmental awareness, cleanliness, conservation, and our collective responsibility to protect the natural world.
We went as friends, but each journey taught us something more. We saw the extraordinary beauty of Nepal, but we also saw its vulnerabilities. We met people, listened to communities, and witnessed how closely human well-being is connected to the health of the environment. The farther we traveled together, the clearer our shared purpose became.
For years, one idea kept returning to our conversations: What if we could turn this friendship into something greater? What if the trust we had built over the years, the experiences we had gained, and the compassion we shared could be brought together to create meaningful change?

Individually, each of us could do something. Together, perhaps we could do much more. We began to see our unity not simply as friendship, but as a strength, something that could be invested in the service of others.
The idea remained with us for a long time. We talked about it during our gatherings, on our journeys, and through countless conversations. Eventually, there came a moment when talking was no longer enough. It was time to act.
On September 2, 2024, we officially announced our decision to establish Himalayan Hope Network Inc. It marked the beginning of a new chapter, but the values behind it were not new. They had been growing among us for years: friendship, compassion, service, environmental responsibility, trust, and hope.

We formed our founding team under the leadership of President Kazi Gurung, Vice President Sonam T. Sherpa, and Treasurer Tsewang Sherpa, together with Ang Galgen Sherpa, Chhiring N. Sherpa, Phurbu N Lama, Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa, Sangay Sherpa, Lakpa Wongchhu Sherpa, Karma Sherpa, Rinjee Sherpa, and Tshiring Lama.
We came from different backgrounds and brought different experiences, skills, and perspectives, but we came together around one shared purpose: to transform friendship and compassion into meaningful action. Our guiding belief remains simple: Unity becomes strength when it is used in the service of others.
Today, the friends and families who once gathered simply to talk, laugh, sing, travel, explore nature, and support one another are part of a larger journey through Himalayan Hope Network, united by a shared vision, mission, and commitment to serve.
The mission of Himalayan Hope Network Inc. is to create hope through compassionate action by supporting vulnerable and underserved communities through humanitarian assistance, education, health initiatives, environmental awareness and conservation, and community development.
We seek to connect people, resources, knowledge, and compassion so that meaningful assistance can reach communities where it can make a lasting difference.
We envision a world where Himalayan and underserved communities have the opportunities, resources, knowledge, and support they need to build healthier, more resilient, environmentally responsible, and hopeful futures. We believe in a future where compassion inspires action, communities are empowered, and people work together across geographic, cultural, and organizational boundaries for the common good.
Our work is centered around several interconnected areas: humanitarian and disaster relief, education and opportunities for children, preventable blindness and community health, environmental awareness and conservation, and sustainable community development.
We believe humanitarian service should go beyond temporary assistance whenever possible. Relief can help someone through today’s emergency. Education can open tomorrow’s opportunities. Healthcare can restore quality of life. Environmental awareness can protect the future. Strong communities can create change that lasts for generations.
For this reason, our goal is not simply to provide assistance. We seek to work alongside communities and trusted partners to create meaningful and sustainable grassroots impact.
Himalayan Hope Network Inc. was not created to compete with, replace, or disrupt the work of any other organization. We have deep respect for nonprofit organizations, community associations, humanitarian groups, professionals, volunteers, and individuals who have dedicated themselves to serving others. There is too much need in the world for service to become a competition.
We believe we can accomplish more by working together. Whenever our missions and values align, we welcome opportunities to collaborate, share knowledge and resources, support one another’s work, and stand together when communities need us most.
We do not believe every meaningful project must carry the Himalayan Hope Network name. Recognition is not our purpose. What matters is that help reaches those who need it, human dignity is respected, communities are strengthened, and something positive remains after the work is done. For us, genuine service is not about ownership; it is about shared responsibility.
When we look back, the beginning was remarkably simple. A group of friends enjoyed spending time together. Our families became friends, our gatherings became journeys, and those journeys created memories. Those memories strengthened trust, trust created unity, unity gave us strength, and that strength eventually found a purpose. From that purpose, hope was born.
We are still those same friends and families. We still gather, laugh, talk, hike, travel, support one another, and sometimes make fun of each other. But today, we are also investing the friendship and trust we built over many years into something larger than ourselves.
We know we cannot change the world overnight, and we may not be able to solve every problem we encounter. But we believe deeply in the power of beginning somewhere. One compassionate act can bring hope to one person. One opportunity can change the future of one child. One partnership can strengthen a community. And many people working together can create change far greater than any one of us could achieve alone.
This is where we came from. This is what brought us together. And this is the spirit of Himalayan Hope Network Inc.
Creating Hope Through Action.
